HELP! I'm Worried my milk has dried up after gastroenteritis

My husband and myself have been laid out all weekend with a particularly nasty dose of gastroenteritis.

I am now worried that my milk supply has been damaged and that I won't be able to carry on breastfeeding my DD who is 5 months. Am I being irrational? My boobs are much smaller and have for the first time since DD was born returned to their pre-breastfeeding size and texture, IYKWIM. Would 48 hours of fasting and not keeping much in the way of fluid down ruin my milk supply?

Today I managed to eat a sandwich and half a small lasagne but apart from that I've not eaten anything since Friday night. I've kept my fluid intake up as much as I can and drunk Dioralyte.

Don't worry, I had exactly the same, only a severe bout of vomiting and didn't eat or drink anything for 4 days. Carried on feeding nonetheless, despite feeling like shite, although I did replace with a bottle a couple of times when I was feeling too crap. DD was 8 weeks old at the time, she's now 2.3 and I'm still bfeeding.

Your boobs are soft as you're probably just dehydrated, get you fluids back up and your baby feeding and everything should be fine. Did you feed her while you were sick too? If so then you really will have no probs.

I have not eaten up to a week with gall bladder problems and still kept my milk...two days I didn't even express either.

From what you described I doubt you have damaged your milk supply.

thanks guys, you've put my mind at rest. I did carry on feeding as normal whilst I was ill ? had no choice really as DH was just as sick as me.

We're all feeling much better now and although i've still got floppy boobs DD seems to be satisfied with her feeds so all is well.
