My son has never had a healthy appetite - at 11 pounds, he takes 3 - 5 oz per feed, 6 times in 24 hours. He is putting on weight though, but in the last two days has taken to sleeping a lot so that he has to be woken for every feed. He seems alert enough when awake, smiling and laughing. Should i be worried about how much he sleeps? Or the fact that he NEVER cries for food - I could let him sleep through to 7 in the morning after a midnight feed, but usually wake him so that he could have some breakfast! Shouldnt babies be crying for food? He has always been plagued by wind, and feeds are a nightmare - 45 mins to take a small amount (2.5 oz) sometimes. Is this normal? Will he grow out of this?

My sister slept through from birth and had to be woken up for feeds, so I know it can happen. My mum was really worried about her, but she is fine... just very sleepy (even now at the age of 38!).

Have you tried different teats? It's a long time since I bottlefed (my dd is now 7!) but we found the ones with a cross at the top instead of just a hole (so the baby regulates how much they get with each suck) to be good. Might be worth experimenting a bit.

Can never do harm to mention it, especially if unusual. Always better safe than sorry.
