Just a little update on my percentile dropping 9 month old...

Thanks to all who gave me advice after the HV shook me up with her declaration that my dd was light for length and dropped from the 50th to the 9th percentile. I have since had her 9 month check (3 weeks after the hv episode) and met the loveliest hv ever. She said that dd was clearly fine, and that some hv dont really look at the baby (rather than the chart). I showed her the WHO chart and she seemed familiar with it.
Also, and most shockingly, she measured DD and she is on the 9 percentile for length (so in proportion) not the 50th as the previous hv made it. I am genuinely concerned that the previous hv may have deliberately measured her wrong (1.5cm out), as it was only at my request that she measured her at all (until then I was all "oh, I don't really care about those charts...)
So for anyone who has a bright, active, healthy bf baby who is dropping percentiles, find a hv who has some brains!

well done for being strong through this

Great! Nice to see there are babies on any other percentile than the 50th, without them there would be no stats! Thats the whole point, some are small, some are big (like me and DD) and more are average. I think all HV should have to take a Statistics course!

Also the measuring the length thing is so difficult, DD is 90th (I'm 99th if you look at the adult charts!) for length when we do it at home but only ever 75th when HV did it DP is a design engineer so I don't think he gets measurements wrong often

Cazee, that sounds great, I too have a bright, active, healthy bf baby who is dropping percentiles but luckily I have an HV who says, "just look at him! He's healthy!"

Am actually going to write a letter to her boss to say how brill she is.

Your old HV sounds awful though, how dare she measure your dd incorrectly just to prove her point!

great news, apart from the measuring part. if you complained do you think they would just say she had shrunk??

This is a great thread for me to read this week. My 17 week old has dropped from the 25th to the 9th and I was in the baby clinic for 2 hours the other day being told I need to bring her back 2 weekly, that they need to make sure taht she is thriving and that her slow weight gain isn't due to something more sinister than the fact that she is an active baby. They terrified me basically and I spent the evening in tears really considering topping her up.Have since decided not to get her weighed as she is clearly fine and has never actually lost weight....and this OP backs that up. Just wish all health proffessionals were singing from the same song book.....
