Are there any breastfeeding cafes in SW London?

I'm in Battersea and I'm trying to find a bf cafe to go to. I'm having problems with latch. My ds is very small and he's struggling, as am I! Are breastfeeding cafes the sort of place where you can get some advice about correcting these kind of problems? I've seen a bfc and she did help, but I think I need more support. Does anyone know of any in the SW London area?

Who did you see? ET?

Not heard of any cafe type groups
You could try the LLL group but I think they only meet monthly

LLL meet on the second Tuesday of each month, Quaker House on Spencer Hill Road, 10am-12pm.

There's a BF cafe at the Lavender Centre, Steadmead, Mitcham, every Friday. Another one in Kingston on a Wednesday (at the Hawker Cantre), a bit far for you.

I'd ring up the LLL counsellors (phone number on their website) first.

I did see ET, she was great but I think I need a bit more support and advice. Thanks for the tip off Cristina, I've found a sure start group on Battersea High Street every Tuesday, so I'm going to that and the NCT meet at the Battersea Arts Centre every Monday. I'm going to go to them as well!

You could also try seeing the Clapham NCT BFC
She lives over in Brixton

You're doing the right thing, MrsMar, getting all the support you can. I did the same with DD1, I was joking with DH that I'm like the guy in "Fight Club" hooked to support groups.

How old is your DS? I have a 3 week old DD2 now and she sleeps all the time - which means she feeds v little.

There's one at the Effra Early Years Centre, Effra Parade - I think it's on Tuesday afternoon? [[http://www.surestart.gov.uk/surestartservices/settings/fundedsettings/index.cfm?prog=1583 link]

BadZelda · 16/10/2007 22:02

oops! LINK

MrsMar · 18/10/2007 18:46

Thanks for the link badzelda...

theblonde - do you have a contact number for the clapham nct bfc? I didn't realise there was one, the only one I could find was the bf cafe in croydon and there was a contact number for an nct bfc based there.

Cristina - my ds is 5 weeks old. I'm very at your dd sleeping all the time, my ds feeds all the time LOL at the fight club type dependency on support groups... I've never actually done anything like this, it's a bit scary, do we all have to sit in a circle and stand up and say "hello, my name is mrsmar and I'm a breastfeeder"?? hehehehe

If you can get to King's Hospital, I think the breastfeeding counsellors there are still supposed to be very good - I saw them six years ago, when DD1 was a baby, and they were fabulous. In fact I didn't even do face to face, just rang them up.

Mrs Mar - I have sent you a CAT message

MrsMar · 19/10/2007 13:07

sorry for being such a divvie, but how can I read cat messages?

Mrs. Mar - do contact King's College Hospital. They produce a list of breastfeeding drop-ins/cafes for Lambeth and Southwark boroughs. Sadly mine's disappeared, but they should be able to give you a copy. IIRC, there was at least one session on every weekday, somewhere in the area.

TheBlonde · 19/10/2007 14:19

cat = contact another talker - MN HQ will fwd my msg on to your email address
