emkana, a trick I learned ( from Hunkermunker?) was when they bite to push their face into your breast. It did make him stop for a while!

Jackstini · 14/10/2007 22:05

How old is he Emkana?
A firm NO and taking baby off I know has worked for some MNers and I used this with dd
(although I use nipple shields so sure the pain was not as bad as you are having!)

Pannacotta · 14/10/2007 22:07

Agree with chipmonkey to push your DS's face into your breast. DS2 gums down (hard) on me while feeding and this stops him every time.

TooTicky · 14/10/2007 22:09

I've found this is generally a short (but sharp!) phase. Stick your little finger between his jaws and prise apart.
Tends to be worse during teething or when snotty.

moondog · 14/10/2007 22:54

I took mine off and bawled 'NOOOOOOO!!'
It worked.

TrinityRhino · 14/10/2007 22:56

gecko is 8 months and doing that to me right now
she has just cut her third tooth(her first top one) and it is agony

I whip her off quick and can't help shouting OOOWWWWWW

emkana · 14/10/2007 23:01

hmmm, short phase... ds is 16 months and has been doing it, on and off, since he got his first tooth at 16 weeks

When I cry owwwwwwwwww he laughs his head off.

When I put him on the floor when he does it he cries but still does it next time.

I am a martyr to the cause.

Will try pushing face into breast. He mainly just does it at the very end, sort of pulls away with the nipple clenched between his teeth. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

The trouble with taking them off, as opposed to pushing them in is that on the way off they usually take a few skin cells off your nipple with those sharp little fangs!

gigglewitch · 15/10/2007 00:08

i reckon pushing them in works... even if it is pretty much the opposite of what you want to do! they have to release the bite to get air in to their mouth, sounds barbaric but they do it pretty quick so no harm done (to baby... but bruised boob!)
