EBF 3 week old, enough feeds?

Hi all, hoping to get some support,

I'm EBF my 3 week old DS, I really struggled with DD, gave up after a few days due to lack of support and PND
We've made it to 3 weeks 🙌🏼 but I'm just a bit nervous of feeding schedule

He only seems to feed 6-7 times a day, granted one could be over 2 hours of on and off (only counting that as one, should it be more?)

Everything I read says 8-12 times, so I'm worried I should be waking him, he sleeps really well, he does sleep 6 hours at night at the moment and I'm not sure if I should be waking him?

I knew with DD being FF exactly how much she was having, and while she slept well she was more active in awake periods and often had the increase in formula a week or two earlier than they suggest

He has lots of wet nappies and goes regularly, he lost 3% of his birth weight at the start and is now back up past it.

Don't worry how often he feeds. He sounds like a content baby. With breast fed babies you don't need to know how much milk is going in, just an idea of how much is coming out as wet nappies. As long as he is producing at least 6 heavy wet nappies in 24 hours he is fine.

Sounds like you are doing brilliant and he's getting plenty! Honestly if he's having lots of wet and dirty nappies, is content and gaining weight then you have nothing to worry about. I know it can be hard not knowing exactly how much they have had, but just followed his lead, and if he's hungry he will let you know Smile

p.s you don't need to wake him up to feed if he's sleeping

If he’s gaining weight and having plenty of wet nappies he’s getting enough milk Smile Babies will let you know soon enough if they’re hungry!

Sounds like you’re doing a great job.

Thanks all! He is a very happy chilled boy
It's just so different doing BF vs FF so I end up doubting myself Blush
