That is how long I have been feeding dd2 who had her last ever breastfeed last night.

I fed dd1 until she was around 20 months and stopped when she got a really bad cold and couldn’t feed. I don’t remember our last feed.

With dd2, she is a persistent little thing and any attempt to stop before was met with a stern rebuttal. She fed to sleep and had a feed in the morning when she woke up.

Me and Dh decided in the car yesterday afternoon that she was too old now and needed to stop feeding. I was ready to stop feeding. We had discussed it on and off for the last year or so but she was adamant she didn’t want to stop.

We explained to her that she was a big girl now and she needed to learn how to go to sleep herself and that mummy milk was being turned off and she accepted it. She said “Ok mummy, one more milk then that’s it!”

She went to sleep tonight with no milk after ten minutes of fussing and a few “but I don’t know how to get myself to sleep!” I Laid with her, explained to her she needs to snuggle up, stop talking (!) and close her eyes.

But now I’m laying in bed and I feel really sad about it, even though we were both ready. And I just needed to write it down.

As ad as you feel you need to stick to the new no milk rule. It'll get easier. You'll think of it less
