Flaming mastitis again! I need sympathy

I am still bfing at 15 months and thought these days were behind me but after my DD had a tummy bug and was feeding massively she must have had a bad latch. I had a crack on my nipple and assume that's how the infection started.

Off to docs for anti-biotics. Feel totally awful. Woke up in a sweat last night with a high temp, aching all over and breast really really hurts. I know I have to keep feeding from that side but honest to god it is agony.

Feeling really sorry for myself. Plus got a banging headache which I expect is because I haven't eaten anything since Saturday - just dont' fancy it.

Ugh!

You poor thing. Mastitis is the worst. I had a run of it when my ds was about 10 mo, several infections after the other. Awful. At least you've got the antibiotics now. I found they helped pretty quickly. And very hot flannels on your boob and then stroking the lump out with a wide toothed comb always helped me. I was very suprised to get it as he got older. Touch wood, havent had it for a few months now.Hope you are OK

Anyone had experience of using cabbage leaves? Do you use the savoy leaves or some other sort?

I had it last week for the third time and Lo is 8 months now. Never had it with my older two. I didn't have the AB's but the GP said if anything they might upset his stomach.

I used cabbage leaves, had hot ginger baths and massage/combing, expressing and endless feeding. I also used homeopathic phytolacca 200. I don't know if it was one of these or the combination that helped the most, I still feel wiped out from it.

So, you have my sympathy!

i couldnt imagine trying to feed a 15 month old with mastitis. the oldest my dd's were was 9 weeks and even with swaddling her it was still excruciating.

You will get through this.. the worst has probably already gone. Hang in there, it will pay off.

You have plenty of sympathy from me, I have the same problem at the mo. I'm on AB, for the second time in 3 weeks, doc wanted to admit me for IV ABs but I managed to persuade her not to, how do you feed in hospital? Much happier at home, ds i only 5 weeks too so don't want him to catch anything.

Feeding is incredibly painful isn't it? Just hang in there tho, hopefully the drugs will work soon. Make sure you keep your fluids up too.

Loads of sympathy - I remember it well, hot baths and massaging the lump out helped me avoid ABs. Try to get as much help around the house and with DCs - so you can get a bit of rest. Hope by now the ABs are giving you some relief.

Awful, awful, awful - worse than earache and toothache. I remember walking a round with my hands outstretched to prevent anyone coming within 1 metre of me. I swear I could actually feel air movements from across the room coming in waves onto my boobs! You have my complete sympathy and utter admiration at continuing to breastfeed and being able to type a message!
Please look after yourself. Hope its not too long before you fancy ( and get!) the big cream cake you deserve for toughing this out
