Just wondering if anyone has any ideas that we haven't tried yet.
Ds is almost 10 months old and due to his upper lip tie his teeth grate on my nipples and he has caused some cuts which have slowly made breastfeeding more and more painful.
I am now at the point where the pain is too much too continue for each feed.

When bf he would feed as follows:
Wake up
Before morning nap
Before afternoon nap
Before bed
When I went to bed (a small comfort feed unless he'd had a poor bedtime feed)
Occasionally once in the night.

We decided to try formula to give my boobs time to heal and I'd continue if needed overnight.
Bedtime day 1 and he took 5oz from a bottle. Yay.
Since then, nothing. Pushes it away and refuses.
We've tried:
Formula
Expressed milk
Warm
Cool
Almost cold
From a lansinoh bottle
From a mam bottle
Medium flow teat
Fast flow teat
From a sippy cup
Me feeding
Dad feeding

Nothing has worked. Last night we even tried to do it at bedtime, then before I swapped breasts, then midway through a breast, then at the end. Nothing, same cries and pushing it away.
It's not impacted his naps and he is still able to fall asleep alone.

Any ideas of what we can try. We are on day 3 and a bit as he had the initial 5oz on Friday before bed.
Today he has had zero milk so far. Yesterday we managed to get him to have 1oz in the day before I fed overnight and he didn't wake more than normal.

HV said we might have to just accept it and he just won't have it. And I'll just feed at night and give him more dairy in his diet.

Do what the HV said. Focus on solids and getting what they need into their diet with solids.

My DC were both milk refusers because of reflux. We FF. They flourished when we weaned them. By the time they were 10 months, they were well established on three meals a day and only had a bottle of formula first thing in the morning and at night. Both of them stopped formula/milk when we stopped giving it to them in bottles. I think they only had it out of the bottle as comfort.

You can offer cows milk and water in a sippy cup with meals and through the day. But you really should be focusing on solids rather than milk at this age anyway IMO.

Will he drink water out of a sippy cup but not expressed milk? Could you try to get as much breastmilk into his food as you can? He still needs bm/formula until he’s 12 months as I’m sure you are aware but maybe sneaking it into food/ trying to get him to take it from a cup will be the way to go if he’s refusing a bottle?

I agree with your HV. Just give dairy products regularly and a multi vitamin.

Have been exactly where you are! My baby is now 11 months and never did accept any kind of milk from any other bottle/cup. We just started giving her vitamins and trying to get milk/extra calcium into meals, and is absolutely fine. She breast feeds once or twice during the night and has once on waking but nothing else all day. They’re much more clever than we give them credit for!

It’s normal for a breastfed baby to reject cows milk, as it tastes so different to breast milk. Our LO only drank cows milk from about 15 months - it was like a sudden switch had gone off and they suddenly LOVED it. They still breastfeed first & last thing, but otherwise happy with cows milk. I just read about someone in same situation having success with oat milk though, so might be worth a try, if you’ve not already??
