Hi, this time I am not breast feeding, but my milk has just come in. I have very large, painful boobs. Will the milk just subside and how long will it take as I am not feeding/expressing from them. The midwifes know I am bottle feeding but noone has said to do anything about the milk!

Thanks very much.

I had to stop bf with my dd suddenly as i became very sick at 4 weeks if i remember right it took about 4 days to calm down, but was very painful
Get some cabbage leaf (savoy if i rememeber right) to put in your bra.
Good luck

Lisa

With my first I slept sitting up for a week the pain was so bad! Take pain killers and keep your bra on!

be aware that if you have a hot bath, it might male you leak

Sorry - I have to ask - if your milk has come in, and you have a plentiful supply - why aren't you breast feeding?

chipmonkey · 29/09/2007 20:35

Don't touch them at all, it will only encourage production.

OOh your baby would love that milk. Not being a nag but can't you have a go feeding him/her? Seems such a waste!

Thanks, its due to stitches pain and juggling a 3 yr old, 1 yr old and getting to school, etc. everyday we thought it would be easier to bottle feed this time as DH or In Laws could help out with feeding DS3.

Thanks for help.

Hi I think it would be much easier to bf than ff with a 3yo,1yo and getting to school rather than faffing about with all the bottle paraphenalia.
But if you do want some ease while your milk is being reabsorbed and stopping I would second the suggestion of cabbage leaves.

Make sure you stick them in the fridge - I have a friend who tried bf and failed, and she put cold cabbage leaves down her bra to relieve the pain while she waited for her milk production to stop, she said it was bliss!

It took about 4 or 5 days for the engorgement pain to go but they were still tender for a few weeks.

Good luck with the new baby and congratulations. I know how hard it is to cope with a newborn and a toddler.

I thought Bouncingturtle meant to stick the boobs in the fridge, not the cabbage leaves! How are your norks now, jersey?

xXxamyxXx · 01/10/2007 23:39

buy breast pads as it usually leaks out when you dont feed or express pain goes awy after a day or two but it is painful and they will go back to normal size
