Bf'd 5mo - fussy feeding before bed

For the last couple of weeks my son (5 months old) has been very fussy on the breast just before we put him to bed - on, off, on, off, on, off, whinge, on off, etc etc. I always try both sides a few times but he doesn't seem to take much before he goes to bed.

As he has always done, he wakes about 3 times in the night.

Yesterday was worse than normal, but it was also our first day of ditching the dummy. He went crackers when I tried to put him to bed, but wouldn't nurse properly. I ended up giving him 2.5 ounces of EBM which he polished off pretty quickly, after which he flaked out.

So, what's going on? Is my milk rubbish or what????!

Might it be that your milk is low at night and the slow flow frustrates him? The fact that he's taking happily from the bottle might suggest it?

I'd consider teething as a possibility at that age -night time does seem to be worse when it's quieter and they get chance to focus on the sore gob!

yep could be teething. we are having the same issue with DD(5months)and she has got at least 1 tooth coming through. As soon as we settle down for her feed she starts fussing and she looks all flushed. Have a wee feel on his gums.
