Baby reluctant to comfort feed

I’m on my 3rd who is 10 weeks old. My milk flows very fast and she seems full after 3-5 min on one breast. She doesn’t seem to enjoy BF so I feed her before naps, I’ll after some rocking she accepts it better. But than once she is full she wants to suck but doesn’t like the milk that comes with sucking on nipple. She would scream and start sucking her fingers.

We had to remove her dummy last week as she just wouldn’t BF if given an option of dummy or nipple, she was not eating much and not gaining well and only settling if given her dummy.

My older 2 were so keen on comfort feeding, would spend hours and hours on breasts, so I’m surprised to have a baby who just doesn’t like comfort feeding or maybe doesn’t know how to suck without getting too much milk. Or maybe my boobs became so leaky after 2 kids that this baby just struggles with the flow?

Anyone else had a baby like this one who is not keen on nipple sucking? How did you put them to sleep? My LO doesn’t like being rocked to sleep.

That sounds tough! Just thinking that when I started feeding my third, who was prem and tiny, she couldn’t cope with my flow as I’d been expressing and it was fast. I used to express off some of the fore milk first and freeze it for later. The hind milk was slower and more filling and might be better for comfort sucking.

I think that you also get more fore milk if you are drinking a lot. Your milk gets thinner in hot weather to help hydrate the baby. So you could also try drinking less maybe.

Yes, I had this with my son. Unfortunately it never really got any better, and feeds were very stressful from about 10 weeks onwards, I ended up weaning early as I hated breastfeeding so much.

In retrospect I wish I had seen a BF counsellor to try to sort things out a bit more.

Has your lo been checked for a tongue tie?
