My baby is awful with solids and I’m sure it’s because she’s having too much milk. Our typical day is

7am - 2-4oz formula
8:30am - 2-3oz formula one weetabix
10:30 - 7oz formula
Hardly eats lunch at all ever
2:30-3pm - 7oz formula
Dinner is hit and miss sometimes eats a full bowl other days eats absolutely nothing just Spits it out even her favourites.
6:30pm - 4oz formula
7:40pm 4oz formula before bed.

Is this too much?

Do you gone finger good and let her feed herself?

CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 18:22

Yes she chews that and spits it out unless it’s pasta then she has some but no where near a full meal

Sorry my daughter is the same age as yours but bf and I can’t remember that far back for my first but 5 feeds a day sounds fine.

Selfsettling3 · 01/06/2020 18:23

Cross posts. I really wouldn’t worry, she is still young a children develop at their own pace.

CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 18:23

She’s usually close to 28oz. That’s a lot isn’t it

OP posts:
CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 18:24

It’s concerning that she doesn’t eat much solids. I don’t know if I should cut her milk I read it’s 17-20oz max at this age l

What does it say on the side of the formula tin? Remember it’s just a guide. My daughter has a minimum of 6 feeds a day and eats about the same amount as yours. I’m not at all concerned about her eating.

CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 18:27

Does she sometimes completely refuse lunch
And dinner?

OP posts:
CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 18:27

4-6 bottles 4-6oz in 24hrs

The NHS website says at this age they maybe down to 3 feeds a day by this age. 2 more feeds is not a huge amount. Speak to your HV if you are worried but I would give it another couple of months and then she what happens when you introduce snacks at 12 months.

When she has less than 17oz of formula a day you need to start giving vitamins.

20viona · 01/06/2020 18:29

To compare my daughter is the same age and this is what she has
8am 7oz formula
9.30 porridge and fruit
12.00 lunch of oat pancakes/a pouch/veggie cakes/ pastry pinwheels etc with fruit and yoghurt
3.30 snack of a few ellas kitchen sticks if she wants some
5.30 tea similar to lunch
7.30 7oz formula

We have recently replaced our 3.30 bottle with a snack but if she's had a big lunch then she won't want anything until tea time.
That seems a lot of smaller bottles won't they take a bigger one less often?

Selfsettling3 · 01/06/2020 18:29

My daughter some times only has a couple of bites of breakfast. Generally she refuses to be spoon feed at all.

ohwerehalfwaythere · 01/06/2020 18:31

This was exactly my son. He turned 1 a couple of months ago and was like a different baby within a few weeks. It was so shit and the worst period of being a mum by miles has been weaning so I totally get it. Just hang on in there, try not to worry and it will improve eventually. Just keep offering lots of variety and don't worry if she doesn't doesn't anything x

CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 18:31

No she won’t have any more than 4oz at a time so before naps it’s a 4oz bottle an hour before nap and 3oz 30 mins later to get to the 7 just didn’t want to type out 7 bottles haha

My dc is around the same age and has 15oz a day (5oz before each nap/ sleep)

I'd personally (this is only a suggestion) drop the milk before breakfast and go straight to breakfast with water. Then offer milk after breakfast at some point just before her morning nap. Same with lunch.

I'd always offer milk after the food so she's not to filled up with milk to show an interest in the food. Keep going with the weaning it all sounds normal so far.

Russell19 · 01/06/2020 18:42

My baby that age was exactly the same as @20viona

I think it sounds like too much milk tbh.

CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 18:46

So should I do 2-4oz formula 7am
Breakfast with 2oz formula and a weetabix
4oz before nap 10:30
Lunch 12-1
4oz before second nap 2:30-3
4oz 6:30
4oz 7:40

My DD is 11 months and loves solids but is still having a lot of formula she’s having:

8am 6oz
9am porridge or boiled eggs and toast and fruit
11am 6oz
1pm lunch omelette or pinwheels or fish cakes etc
3pm 6oz
5pm tea usually baby jar yoghurt
8pm 7oz

I need to speak to the HV about cutting milk down now tho I think? It’s hard as a FTM 😂

CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 19:17

Still 5-6oz less than my dd 😂

OP posts:
CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 19:30

Did my plan seem okay? Dropping it from 28oz to 22-24oz?

OP posts:
Russell19 · 01/06/2020 19:34

You know your baby best but if I was you I'd try and up the breakfast milk or food and take away the 11am milk and do lunch at 12.

CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 19:37

She wouldn’t nap without her bottle and she also won’t take more than that for her first bottle but trust me I’d love too.

OP posts:
CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 19:37

She usually eats most of breakfast she likes the weetabox a bit thicker so has one in 2oz

OP posts:
Russell19 · 01/06/2020 20:05

I honestly don't think you're giving her enough time to get hungry enough which is why you're having problems with the food. Does she fall asleep on the bottle?

CursesAndMagic · 01/06/2020 20:09

No she self settles.
