10 month old food ideas

I feel like a shit mum.

My 10 month old has only really been eating pouches or ready made baby meals.

I'm a really terrible cook and I need help!

Since lockdown, I haven't been to the shops. I have had everything delivered and they cap it at 80 items and only 1 delivery a week. With 2 DC and 2 adults at home to feed I have found it hard to buy enough to be able to experiment with food for my DS.

Typically he will have

Breakfast- baby porridge and a mashed banana/ plain yogurt

Lunch- a baby pouch (a 10 month meal one) and then a fruit pouch and some baby crisps

Dinner- another pouch and a baby biscuit

A few other things I have confidently given him are

Fingers of cheese
Mashed sweet potato
Potato with mashed beans and cheese
Mashed chick peas
Toast/ bread/ Pitta bread strips with almond butter/ cheese spread

Not only am I not sure what to cook him, if I think of an idea I am terrified of getting the consistency right to make sure he doesn't choke.

I think the choking thing is actually my biggest worry. But I also know how important it is for development that they use their mouth muscles to chew.

Does anyone have any ideas of snacks or meals that are simple to cook and can be safe for 10 month olds.

What do you eat? Why don’t you just feed him what you are having?
The NHS website has some recipes & some more ideas here.

You don’t need to cook anything for baby, give them what you have (just no salt, sugar or honey).

We did BLW but there’s no reason you can’t start with normal food now.

Babies gag, they learn to push the food forwards and out if it’s a problem. Just cut everything appropriately and don’t worry about gagging. Choking (which is silent) is rare if the food is prepped properly. Let them feed themselves, don’t interfere.

For a start bin the baby porridge and give normal porridge or weetabix

Hummus is good for lunch with cucumber sticks and quarters of tomato. Give wedges of sweet potato

All babies seem to love pasta, fusilli is easiest.

Thank you both for the reply. Can't believe the chances of me writing that... I decided to give him scrambled egg for breakfast and he ate it. He then had an allergic reaction to it. Frightened the life out of me. What a horrific day.

I will take both your advice, thank you
