Have been exclusively breastfeeding DS since he was born five months ago. He developed a preference very early on for my left boob and outright rejected the right one. I contacted local breastfeeding support for help several times and tried various holds including the rugby hold etc but he would never feed from the right side, or he would for a minute or two before fussing and crying until I put him on the left. A breastfeeding support worker then came to my home to observe a feed at 8 weeks, whereupon she said she suspected a tongue tie, which I had queried numerous times due to inability to latch, misshapen nipple after feeding etc, but was always told he didn't have one. Anyway that was dealt with at 9 weeks by a specialist, and I was hoping as a result he would latch better on the right side. Sadly not.
The result is that I am extremely lopsided. My right boob is literally flat, think nipple on an ironing board (have always been an AA size bra), and my left side looks like a good C/D cup. Even in clothes it is very noticeable. I always start each feed with the right side, and after feeds I try to pump, but tend to just hand express as basically nothing comes out with a pump (I have tried a manual Medela and an electric pump and neither yield much). If I go a few hours without feeding, my left side becomes engorged and leaks, but my right side remains completely flat.
DS is fast approaching weaning time and although I intend to breastfeed till he's at least 1, I am worried it is too late to rectify the lopsidedness given that supply has already been established and nothing I'm doing is helping. I appreciate that this is mostly a cosmetic issue, but please does anyone have any advice, or will I just have to accept it?
Thank you.
