3 week old screaming without warning

It's always either hungry or a wet nappy.

But she gives no warning whatsoever and goes from silence, a few whinges for 10 seconds then screaming the house down like it's the end of the world in the next 10 seconds.

We try to anticipate her feeds but it's every hours. This literally gives us 20 seconds to get the bottle ready. Her face goes red, start scratching herself and volume goes up and up.

Is this normal? I know newborns cry but she seems so angry. Then perfectly quiet once fed.

Yes. Normal. Likely to get louder if she is only weeks old.

if she is fine once she's fed, then she's hungry - they go through a growth spurt at 3 weeks and again at 6 weeks and are feeding constantly.

Or it could be wind, is she better upright?

or reflux, and the feeding will help - keeping upright will help.

could be anything - babies are weird! Wink

seriously though she is just trying to find her way in the world and has no idea she is a separate being from you, or that the way she is feeling is not the end of the (her)world, so she will let you know in no uncertain terms.

congrats on your baby Flowers

Mine did this too and it was a bit of a shock as her older brother was the easiest baby in the world! She would go from fast asleep to absolutely mental in about 10 seconds. Trying to BF her was impossible and bottles weren’t much better. Don’t worry though - it didn’t last long! She’s 5 months old now and still hard work but she’s so much better than she was!

Thanks... sounds like it's nothing to worry about.

I just didn't want this to be the beginning of a very angry child haha...
