Baby refusing breast

My 8 month old DS has been showing less and less interest in milk over the last two weeks. He’s currently fed first thing in the morning, then has solids for breakfast, lunch a few hours later, breastfeed mid afternoon, dinner a few hours later, breastfeed before bed and one feed a night. However he’s now refusing the mid afternoon feed altogether and it’s a battle to get him to feed before bed. He’s not mad about solids, we do BLW so he eats as much or as little as he wants (he doesn’t eat a great deal) but I just feel he’s too young to drop this much milk and I’m quite concerned. He refuses a bottle or cup of milk too so I can’t even get it down him that way. Has anyone else’s little one shown similar behaviour? X

Is he active? Gaining weight? Sleeping well?

Laura1609 · 23/02/2020 14:39

@5zeds he’s VERY active, doesn’t stop crawling and trying to pull himself to standing. His weight gain has always been fairly slow but HVs have never been concerned and he’s on 25th centile. Sleep is generally not too bad, he tends to go down (reluctantly) at about 7.15pm, usually only wakes once or twice in the night but is fed once and wakes around 6am.

I think he will self regulate. If he’s active, happy, growing and sleeping, I would relax and enjoy him.

Read up about nursing strike.

I would offer a feed every time before offering solids.
Also Lots of skin to skin without any pressure to feed.
He’ll come back to it he’s just too busy just now!
