Stopping bf and low mood

My (just) 2 year has self weaned from bf in the last month and I am bereft. Only slightly sad about the end of bf (naturally I feel), but overall I feel so down about everything, I don’t want to leave the house, nor see friends, and my husband has really upset me. I’ve been crying on and off about silly things for the last week and I feel exhausted. Has anyone else experienced this sort of depression when bf ended or do you think maybe there’s something else going on and I should get help? When will it pass?

I went through a period of feeling absolutely devastated when my son unexpectedly stopped breastfeeding at 18mo. In our case it was quite a sudden stop (I suspect linked to teething pain) and my upset was mainly focused on the end of breastfeeding rather than anything else but it honestly felt like a bereavement! It was definitely hormonal (at least partially) though as I started feeling much better after about 5 days (and actually quite pleased to have my body back!) I was surprised at the intensity of my reaction - hormones are clearly very powerful! Hope you feel better soon too.
