Stopping breastfeeding with baby that won't take formula

Hi,

Really need help please as it really feels like the impossible! My baby is 9 months old and has been ebf since birth, she is now eating 3 meals a day.
She will drink water out of a bottle & sippy cup but point blank refuses formula (have tried diff ones) I have been trying to stop breastfeeding since she was around 6 months and I am starting to resent it now as it just seems like it's never going to be a thing.
The day time she feeds about 3 times but she seems to be waking up even more on a night than when she was first born! And it's for milk, around 4/5 times a night.
Really don't know what to do... I'm going away for the night this weekend and don't know wether to use that to just go cold turkey? Sleep on the sofa the next night but every time I have tried to refuse a feed she gets into such a state x

Yes that's what I had to do. My son was 9 months, and refused to take any kind of milk from any cup or bottle. He also used to wake numerous times per might for feed, but it was just habit, not hunger.

I was away for 3 nights. As I was not there, he had to manage. He has slept through the night ever since and not drinking milk does not seem to have caused him any harm.

Hi OP. I had a similar situation with my DS. I didn't stop feeding but I didn't want to get up 4 times a night. He refused formula so I had DH go into him with water, eventually he got the message and started sleeping through.

We started giving him whole milk along side breastmilk in the morning and evening when I went back to work, which he loves it.

I think I'm going to have to just go for that! As I don't think she's going to be weaned off it. Makes me feel bad though taking something from her that she loves as well as needs!

@KatharinaRosalie did you just give dairy through foods etc?

@sqirrelfriends she has taking a couple of sips from cows milk which I offered to her cold but literally a couple of sips! Did you heat the cows milk up?

hey - yes, luckily he liked yogurts and such. He is now 6 (as tall as an average 9 year old) and still does not drink any milk - even cow's milk was always refused.

I had to mix formula and breast milk and gradually increase the amount of formula to get DS onto formula. I tried with one feed in the afternoon, persevered with that one, and within two weeks he would take 100%
formula. I then started to phase out other feeds for formula.

No, I tried once or twice but he prefers it cold, much easier for me. I just carry it in one of those insulated stainless feel bottles for out an about. Your DD May prefer it warm though, my childminder heats it in the bottle in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
