I've just found out that I am pregnant again. I am still breastfeeding my 10 month old 3 times a day. Does anyone have any views as to whether it may be harmful to the pregnancy? Thanks

I bfed dd2 until I was 20 wks pg with ds, three times a day or more, and had no problems. Some people say it changes the taste of your milk and some babies can go off it but I had no problems with dd2.

Congratulations!

Thank you. If you check any of my previous posts you'll see what a worrier I am! I read that it can cause miscarriage and I can feel tightenings when I'm feeding but it may be in my head! I always said that I would bf for the first 12 months and I want to honour that commitment. I would hate to stop only to mc anyway and then regret that lost time. That probably seems really negative but I already feel sooooo guilty about getting pregnant whilst he is still so young. It was planned but no. 1 took 3 years and this was our first month of trying for no. 2! Aaaarrggh!

I've never heard of bf causing a mc! You'll be fine!

Congrats to you. My understanding is that the link between bfing in pregnancy & mc has not been thoroughly researched & there hasnt been a trial showing that this is the case either.
I am 37 weeks pregnant, still bfing my nearly 11 month old on demand & found it has had no ill affect on my pregnancy at all. The hormones change the taste of the milk & some lo self wean but I am very glad that my DS didnt & is at the moment bfing with vengance, obviously loving this new taste!! So looks like we will be tandem feeding but that is fine by us as we felt it was far to early to wean DS.
Contact La Leche League, I went to a meeting & met 3 other tandem feeding mums & a few others who had fed through pregnancy so it was great to see it can be done & is maybe not as uncommon as we think.
Good luck{smile}

DS1 was five months old when I got pg with DS2. I bfed him till he was almost 11 months when he self-weaned, probably due to a change in taste in the milk. In some ways I was sad as I wanted to bf for at least a year but on the other hand, it was incredibly easy. He just refused to feed and happily accepted a bottle. I was surprised at the attitude of some so-called medical professionals, though. One HV told me I had to stop bfing immediately, plus a doctor said he'd never heard of anyone bfing while pg.
