ds2 is now 1 month (where did the time go??) and generally feeds every three hours (day and night, though occasionally goes four during the night). However he would, if I let him, go more than 3 hours during the day, when in a deep sleep. I have been waking him after 3 hours as I don't want him to "make up" for it during the night but wonder if I should just let him follow his own course?

any advice peeps? hope this makes sense!

some people like to wake babies to feed them, my girl could never be woken although in the early days she was a little jaundice & this can make them sleepy, or so I was told! I just think she takes after me & doesn't like being woken!

you could always try letting him sleep and keep an eye on wet nappies, poos, alertness that kinda thing. I fed on demand & didn't know what time of day or night it was half the time but I do know my LO fed more often than 3 hours, your ds2 sounds like my mates baby feeding every 3 hours. They are all different afterall.

do what you feel is right for you, not sure if this helped? I think I might stop wafflin now!!

Well done you for getting through month one though!

p.s what does bump mean, I've seen it written a few times?

Hi Miaou, ditto- where did that time go???
I fed ds on demand and he got himself in to a good routine, he really was a good baby. A friend had a baby a week after me and would wake him at 11 for a (formula) dreamfeed. My view was as she had a dd to get up for school I could see her reasoning- I had nothing other to do than the norm so was happy to feed at 5am or whatever and just let him wake when he wanted. Plus bf so quite a different situ anyway. I also got the first 3 full nights sleep at 8 wks whereas with having a dreamfeed she would never have known when that would have happened!
What I mean is it depends on your situation, and I can imagine with having 3 other dcs you really could do with a good, full (or nearasdammit!) night's sleep! So maybe you're right in waking him in the day. Or- how about suck it and see? (Oooh sorry about that!!!) Let him sleep on in the day and feed on demand, then see if you have a better or worse night? He's so young it won't make any difference if you don't like his suggestion!

I do think 3 hours sounds good though, I've known a good few babies on 2 hourly feeds at this age!

PS I really didn't like waking ds either so was happy to let him go for it!
