7 1/2 month old breasfeeding baby pulling away from breast

My lo is exclsuively bf and over the last few days when she is BF - she pulls away from the breast (without leting go of the nipple sometimes ). She then rolls away for a moment or two... and then rolls back and reattaches for another moment or two and so on.. She is eating really well at the moment - I also think she is starting to teeth.

Has anybody else experienced this and what do you do to stop it?

My ds2 is the same age and also does this. Usually he's just having a quick check to make sure he's not missing out on anything too exciting . I think at this age they are becoming aware of everything else that;s going on around them and are much more easily distracted. Doesn't stop it being sodding painful when they forget to let go first, though!

I also find it happens more when he's really only wanting a 'drink' rather than 'food', once he's had his fill of foremilk he starts faffing around.

I think you right- my lo is so alert and is soooo easily distracted by anything. I hope this doesnt last for too long though... i don't think my nipples can stand it for too much longer!!!!!

Have you had the 'turn away, still attached, loose a bit more interest and suddenly let go, spray milk everywhere (always let go just as let down occurs), find out what it was making the noise/changing the lights/etc etc etc (or even, not making the noise), turn back, get milk in eyes, complain for a bit then reattach?'.

Bfd ds until 22 months (cutting down to just 2x a day at end) - from about 4 or 5 months impossible to bf anywhere but home, in peace and quiet - the when there were disturbances just got too much to cope with elsewhere!

Yes! Mistlethrush - milk gets everywhere when she pulls away - in her eyes, ears. Oh dear though - are you trying to say that it won't stop and she won't return to be the concentrating breast feeder that she was before? Has yours been doing this since she was 4 months until now????

My DS has been like this for a couple of months now. To get him to feed in the day I have to get him just before his nap so he has sleepy feeds in the bedroom with blind down. He still has the odd snack, I guess when he's more thirsty, in the living room, but the world is too exciting now compared to mummy's boobie!

Dd (8mths) is a nightmare if I feed her when out - turning round and arching to look at everything, reacting to every little noise...

I usually feed her in her bedroom with the light off and curtains closed

all my boys have been like this, they do grow out of it ....eventually....

but in the meantime do you have a sheet you could drap over her whilst you feed her, so she cant get so distracted, that helped sometimes, or i would lie them in a ring sling and feed them like that, again they cant see out it helped if i fed them when they were sleepy and rocked them a bit etc to soothe them
