For those of you still bfing your lo's at 1 year, how much longer did you continue?

DS is almost 14 months, currently bfing a few times a day: first thing in the morning, mid-morning before his nap, before bed, and once or twice in the night. I don't know anyone else in RL who is still bfing, so I'm just curious as to how long others have continued for, and how much milk their babies are having during the day. I'm sure there are others out there who bf past 12 months, but I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a freak as I don't know anyone who is! Thanks.

19 mths - usually just morning and night.

In fact I decided to stop because he starting ripping my boobs out for a snack whenever he fancied a slurp - regardless of where or when!

dd1 bf till about 3 and a half. ish. after about a year she fed only three times a day - morning, nap time, bed time. she gradually trailed off until it was hard to tell when she stopped.
dd1 is 21 months and still feeds on demand, several times a day.

DS1 - stopped when he was nearly 17mo - self-weaned when I was pg with DS2.

DS2 - still bfeeding at 18m. He feeds morning and bedtime and occasionally during the day. I work fulltime and don't express for him.

I bfd DS2 till he was 14 months. He was only bfing last thing at night before sleep. I went away for a night and that broke the habit. He never bothered about it again, though I would have carried on for longer if he'd wanted to. DS1 self-weaned at 11 months which I was quite sad about because we didn't even get to one year. Go for it as long as you want to and be proud!

Meant to say - I do feed him on demand when I'm with him. He says "moof" Usually he'll have an extra daytime feed or two when we're at home, but not if we're out, because he's too busy to think of it then.

Thanks, I guess I'm just starting to feel the pressure to cut down. We want to start trying for another baby in the next few months and I don't think I want to be pregnant and bf at the same time, although I realise that many people do this successfully.

DS1 until just over 2, he self weaned while I was pregnant with DS2.
DS2 is 12 weeks but I will feed him until he wants to wean.
You arent alone, feed as long as you and your DS want!

I got pg again when DS1 was five months and bfd for a further four months, though I'm sure being pg had something to do with him self-weaning at 11 months. The only problem I had with it was the reaction from some of the so-called health professionals who told me I had to stop bfing the minute I found out I was pg.

DS turned 3 last month & has a feed when he wakes up, usually 1 possibly 2 mid morning if we are together, sometimes 1 or 2 mid afternoon & then feeds to sleep after supper. He occasionally wakes in the night and comes into our bed for a feed if he is ill or having a growth spurt...but it is getting easier to fob him off with a cuddle & pretending to be asleep unless he is really insistent . Invariably he just comes into our bed at some ungodly hour in the morning but just cuddles up to me & goes back to sleep. For the last few weeks we haven't even noticed him climb in - just woken up to find him next to us

Mummydoit, I know what you mean: my HV is telling me to stop even before I become pregnant, to give my body a break in between. Although, to be fair, my periods haven't started up again so stopping soon might make me fertile again. Oops, DS has just woken up, must dash in for a cuddle!

am feeding ds2 at 18mo, but mostly just once a day (bedtime), with the occasional daytime feed (if tea is going to be late) or early morning feed (if he wakes earlier than I want to get up).
I have cut the other feeds, he would happily have 3 a day (or more), because I would rather not do them.

I bfed both of mine until they were about 2 1/2 and they still were not ready to give up then. DS1 went on to holding my hair as a comfort thing and DS2 went on to putting a hand on my 'nibble' which I have tried unsuccessfully to move to my tummy. Luckily he only does it in bed now!

The only time DS really wants to bf during the day now is before his nap. He doesn't always fall asleep while bfing, but it calms him down and gets him ready for sleep. I have tried to just cuddle him and put him down to sleep but he nearly screamed the place down, so he's not quite ready for that yet!

Another year with dd. Finally got a bit tired of it, and it was OK. At first she did try to breastfeed quite a bit (but wasn't distraught or anything) now she doesn't, but remembers that she did (she is now 2 and a half). When I was feeding she used to call my breasts - and by extension, breastfeeding - Mummore. Now they have been relegated to useless milkless Dadmores!

Hi AWB - my DS is 13 mo, and feeding like your's during the day (morning, before nap and before bed). We managed to stop the night feeds about 2 months ago and I got my first period a month later - so maybe you just need to get down to 3 feeds to become fertile? Although I imagine everyone is different.

I also can't find a way to calm ds down before sleep without bfing - he doesn't scream though (if I'm with him) he just gets more and more hyper, bounces around grinning and squealing.
