breastfeeding group being made to close [sad]

theres a breastfeeding group in my area which is run by hv. they help with any problems or general advice re bf and it gives you chance to chat to other bf mums. the health authority have said that the hv have to take on more work and to do this they have to use the hours taken up by the group. the hv are disapointed about this as they have put a lot of work into establishing the group and i will also be sad to see it go as it was a place to go for advice. i cant see how the govenment can push breastfeeding but then not be prepared to offer the support the mums need.

what can i do to try and stop the group from closing?

That's disgraceful

You could contact the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers and La Leche League as they have local branches and are bound to have experience in lobbying and pressure groups.

That really is shocking, care to name and shame your health authority?

That's really sad. Maybe you could look into the La Leche League Peer Support programme? A lot of the breastfeeding mums in my local area have completed the course and are now running support groups themselves. In this area the initial funding was supplied by surestart I think.

Im going to write a letter to the health authority and get it signed by all those who use the group. Wish me luck
