have begun weaning and now have severe pain when feeding

I have just started weaning my 6 month old and am breastfeeding her just in the morning and at bedtime. I have never had any problems before but now I get severe pain in my nipple when feeding. Has anyone has this or know why it might be happening?

Are you sure there aren't any teeth coming through I discovered my DD had a tooth when I felt it first.

No teeth yet, but maybe they are on they way.

severe pain in nipple could be thrush or mastitis?

any signs of redness or white patches?

could be that she has changed the way she latches on due to having less boob and more bottles and you need to concentrate on getting her latched on properly - eg plenty of nipple in mouth etc?

my dd is 22m and now only on morning and night feeds and I have to say every feed hurts because she has a mouth full of teeth and has got very lazy in the way she latches on!

with the biting, the advice is not to shout out too loud or they can think its a game - but its a bit bloody difficult to stop yourself shouting when someone has just bitten your nipple!

when we went through that phase, I just used to say 'NO Biting' firmly and removed her from the boob - she would normally cry and want to be straight back on

If they wont let go you can pull them towards you so their nose is blocked and they release mouth, or just lever a little finger into the corner of their mouth to break the latch
