Embarrassing question about breast feeding and large boobs etc!

Okay, was going to name change but not sure how to!

I'm currently expecting my second child, I didn't breast feed Ds due to him having a cleft lip etc and the fact that i was quite ill after the birth. Now facing the breast feeding debate once again, I'd like to try it, but i have rather large breasts which i am ashamed to say are rather saggy (ugh) and my nipple seems to point downwards getting ever closer to my waist as i type! All very embarrassing, and I absolutely dread having to feed infront of anyone as I am so ashamed of my boobs. Has anyone had this problem and still gone on to breast feed?

You can convert any normal bra into a nursing bra using clips, see their website here for full instructions on how to do it.

I just did it with a couple of soft bras I had lying around (not missing the underwires, unlike you ladies!) but you could very easily do it with an underwired bra as long as the cup itself was soft and not the foam moulded type, I can't see how it wouldn't be in baby's face all the time!

It all looked so good, then I looked at the 'made of' section, I'd die trying to nurse in something predominantly nylon. Normally it doesn't bother my skin, but I seem to go mental for irritation when I nurse. I like the idea though

Oh, your boobs sound like mine!

So when it came to b/feeding, "tummy to tummy" didnt quite work

My two could lay, almost facing upwards (well they had to really....) because of the way my nipples point (southwards).

I was quite self-conscious about b/feeding in front of people at first, but, the more i did it, the more used to it i became. You also realise, if you go to places with other b/feeding mums, that you cant actually see much at all of the breast anyway - there is a huge baby head in the way .

I was exactly like you angelcake99 - I hate my norks and could hardly bear the midwife touching my nipples when she was thry in to get ds to latch on.

A baggy top and vest is the way to go.

FWIW it would be nice to see pictures of real (ie saggy) norks in all those leaflets about breastfeeding. It's terrible that we should feel embarrassed at all really

LOL Zoo!

Well, I'd show you mine, but you'd all think i was a bit, well, weird

My ds used to hold a doll to his belly button and say (usually loudly and in public places) "i'm just feeding the baby"

bananabump · 30/07/2007 22:02

Zookeeper, have you ever looked at The Shape of a Mother? It's a great site with lots of reassuring pics. Makes you appreciate what you have as well as feeling angry for all those of us covering up what is perfectly natural just to fit in with airbrushed images of virtually teenage "perfect" bodies. It's all bollocks, really. Everyone has flaws, and after what we go through in pregnancy and childbirth, we have a bloody godgiven right to get saggy, imho! lol

Ooh, got all ranty then.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/07/2007 22:03

LOL!

I was laying on the bed a few months ago, and my DD said "Mummy, why have you put your boobies down there?" meaning they had obviously slid down by my armpits .

Jenkeylovesdazzy · 30/07/2007 22:42

zookeeper - my dd who is nearly 3 breastfeeds loads of her toys and yes, they are always held at belly button level!

zookeeper · 30/07/2007 22:49

lol vvv

Mine arent massive (currently 38c) but they do face southwards so tummy to mummy doesnt work for me either - she has to face upwards. I just wear normal t-shirts or loose tops and pull up at one side.
