Hi my 1 year old is in hospital for the next 4 weeks we have been here a week she’s had surgery and it’s been stressful we usually exclusively breastfeed but I’ve had to pump milk as she is currently tubefed my supply has dipped so much I can barely express 100ml a day now it’s been a week since we were breastfeeding as normal she should be able to feed from me in about two days but I’m worried my supply has gone now.

The nurses have had to top her up with formula which really hurt me as she had never had it and was only 3 days before1 Year’s old!

Has anyone else been able to get there supply up?
Any tips?
I’m pumping but maybe only getting 20-30ml a time...

Thanks....

Sorry you lo is poorly OP.

I'm assuming she's only feeding a few times a day as she's 1 so on food too? How often are you pumping? Might be worth trying to pump every few hours like when you were nursing at the start?

Ultimately stress won't help, and your ment health deteriorating with hurt you all more than a few formula feeds a day. Will she be able to go onto cows milk now she's 1?

There are some supplements you can get, might be worth a Google. Ple ty of fluids for you too

Wish you both well

DS had a severe tongue tie and couldn't latch until it was snipped at two weeks, I've never been able to express much even now, I found fenugreek supplements (Holland and Barrett ones are good) boosted my supply massively, to the point of leaking etc and it's only now at seven months I'm introducing the odd bottle of formula for my kit days etc. Take 3, three times a day until it really kicks in (a few days), then I dropped to two, twice a day or I'd end up squirting milk everywhere, then tailed off all together. Note I'm spending a day at work once every few weeks I take them on the days I don't bf as much

I could breastfeed but couldn't pump nearly as much, so I feel your pain. Hand expressing was a bit more productive than pump that's all I can remember. X take care and don't worry at 1 year she can safely have all sorts so you have options. Hope she's doing ok and back at home soon x
