hv has been again 2day dd has out on another 6oz in the last week
so im quite happy about the weight gain shes 4 weeks old 2moro
hv has advised me to feed her for 20 mins then make her wait till at least 2 to 2 and a half hours before feeding her again
because she spends all day feeding
she said it doesnt matter if shes crying try to distract her till 2 to 2 and a half hours by trying to tak her for a walk in the pram
i want to speak to one of the helplines to see if this is a good idea or not ?
or whever to wait until shes been ex bf for at least 6 weeks?
or if they have any other tips?
whay are your thoughts ?
and which helpine should i try 1st ?
thanks kitten

I got very similar advice from my HV - to see what was the longest time he had EVER gone between feeds and then make him wait that length of time between each feed
Luckily my MW told me the exact opposite - that what he was doing was completely normal, and if you fancied a cup of tea 10 minutes after you'd finished your meal, would you wait another 3 hours?
My DS is 12 weeks now and I'm still feeding on demand but it does get easier, you start to notice a routine and realise you are going a couple of hours between feeds. I found it really useful to keep a log for a couple of weeks, just 3 columns "Nappy", "feed" and "sleep", just to spot any patterns. I gave up after a while, but I realised a few things, e.g. he rarely had a dirty nappy at night, and he usually slept after his "breakfast". I didn't change anything because of the log, but it helped me feel a bit more in control iyswim.

Gosh Kitten you poor thing - sounds like you are doing a fantastic job. I would just echo what everyone else has said and ditch that HV!

Things will settle down in a few weeks and your dd will probably start to space the feeds out herself.

Hi Kitten - I think it has all been said really. Try and change HV I did, silly old bat! Tried to tell me DD should feed every 2.5 hours at most, that she would take a dummy if I tried hard enough and that I was obviously anti dummy when I said she spat it out, then told me to wean early (which I ignored) and when I finally did start to wean at 6m told me she should be on 3 meals by now (she had been eating solids for 4 days FFS!). Why do they speak to you like you are the Child - we are mature, intelligent Women not five year olds who need keeping in line!

We do have some great HV here though so I just avoid the other one. If she is on Duty at the clinic I walk back out.

Keep demand feeding, it gets better. I kind of miss it now, DD (10m) only feeds 2 - 4 times a day and is really quick at it. I never thought I would say that

Saskia is a lovely name, I once knew a really adorable girl called Saskia

thanks for the update! a kiss for Saskia from MN.

Ignore stoopid hv and follow the advice of kiskidee. Choc biccies and fluid are essential. It does get better as I felt that ds was always attached to me, now he is more adept at feeding and can take more within a shorter duration.
