The first 2-3 weeks are quite painful. I really recommend expressing a bit after every feed and rubbing it into the sore bits, allow it to dry, then apply lansinoh every single time. Even if your latch is good, the hormone changes when you first start feeding mean your nipples are very tender and letdown can be painful. It doesn’t last forever though. I would say after 3 weeks, it was painfree and relatively easy. You’re nearly through the hard bit now.

is the tingling when you are due a feed? I had that - like your breasts are filling up or something.

My son is 18 days old and just in the last couple of days it's become much less painful so hang in there! But also lots of lanisoh (or similar 100% lanolin cream - I'm using Medela purelan 100 which I find easier to apply), and have breast pads in to absorb the excess - really whack it on and especially into any cracks. It gets easier when it's less painful as you're not cringing for each latch!

The tingling - I get some between feeds, I also think it's the milk building up. If so normal! If it's more painful it's probably that your nipples still need to heal more so hang in there.

About a month. He's 6 months now and I'm so glad I persevered. Well done for working through the pain OP! It's hard work Thanks

I found being topless helped loads with healing them. Put a bit of breast milk on your nipples after and just leave them ahem hanging free.

About 2 weeks in I was a lot more comfortably and able to not absolutely get drenched when feeding

It settles down after about the first three weeks. It's much less sore if:
you have a good latch
the baby's tummy is flat against yours
your back is very upright e.g. pressed against a wall

I found first 2 weeks very overwhelming and painful. I used boots compresses for my nipples when they got very sore. About a tenner but so worth it! Sorry I can't remember the brand. I also found my fiancé giving me a flannel wrung out in very hot water to go over my boob a few secs before each feed really helped.

After the first 2 weeks things generally got easier and less painful but then I struggled a bit with evening cluster feeding. Once ds turned 4 months or so he seemed to outgrow cluster feeding and then it's been smooth sailing ever since.

I know I'm lucky and that bf doesn't work for everyone. On bad days I used the national bf helpline. Is there a bf support group in your area? I went to one in the early weeks and it was helpful. Also YouTube is great for bf tips - a YouTuber called Emily Norris made a bf tips video which basically taught me more than reading a whole book did!

Good luck and well done on feeding your baby!

Mine was around 5-6 weeks it got better. First few were soooo painful it was ridiculous but much more comfy now. Still little pain but nowhere near as bad and easier to breastfeed as he’s a bit bigger now too! He was tiny at birth 🙈

THANk you all for the comments, baby is 2weeks old tomorrow- and it's definitely improved - I still get a little anxious when it's time to feed as the pain mechanism hasn't gone away, it's just a little tender now is around my breasts but baby happy and feeding lots , today I've bf Almost all day bar a of hour hear and there, I am feeling sooo tired today and not sure what kind of night we are in for ! X
