WO,

When I had cracked nipples I used nipple shields which were a godsend made it less painful. Also take a painkiller before feeding.

I was told not to let my nipples dry out so slathered them with Lansinoh and used dressings for moist wound healing.

I also used breast shells to keep my bra away from my nipple in between feeds.

Also changing positioning helped, I tried the rugby ball.

HTH

The obvious one as you are already using - Lansinoh and try using Jelonets too - they are good for keeping moist while separating your sore nipple from your pad.

Mayb Gelonets. They are like bits of mesh smothered in vaseline.

What about a little teething gel on the niple before feeding just to help numb the pain a bit?

Excellent information being given. I had whopping cracks with DD2. Went to emergency docs and knew I had thrush as had it with DD1. He told me to pull myself together and rub LEMON JUICE into my cracked bleeding nipples!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lansinoh on prescription as it costs a packet, jelonet and nipple shield worked wonders. Avent nipple shield were rubbish as too thick. Ones from boots were very thin and easier for her to suck and DD2 sucked like a trooper. They healed after 2 weeks and I never looked back

weeonion - did the bf person give you any helpful advice on the latch? having v big boobs can make it tricky but not impossible (34L here)

There is some good stuff on Kellymom about moist healing.

I had a huge crack at 6 weeks (I think).
Used lots of Kamillosan and took painkillers.
It took a lot of time (say 2-3 weeks) but after a week the pain subsided
I thought the nip would never recover but it is fine now

octo - on the thrush you could try grapefruit seed extract

Wouldn't be without Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter from www.bowbelle.co.uk I've always worried about using anything else because of chemicals. Very rich and does the trick.

Hope you're feeling better soon
