Long feeds, little sleep!

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone will be able to give me some advice, reassurance, share a common experience... I'll take anything at the moment.

We've had difficulties with latch from birth. We eventually got referred for a tongue tie assessment which took 3 weeks to get an appointment for. They told us that there wasn't a tongue tie.

We have still struggled with feeding and have been using nipple shields. Feeds can take up to 2 hours as she is super inefficient. I got a lactation consultant to come and help us and she feels that the symptoms still all point to a tongue tie. She isn't able to assess but had a good look. Now I feel so confused and disappointed. I just want to be able to feed my baby but I am so close to turning to a bottle. We have asked for help every step of the way but there don't seem to be any solutions and I feel like I'm being passed back and forth with no real answers. I'm going to contact the health visitor to see about a re-referral for tongue tie but I worry it will be another long wait and we still have to cope with 2 hour feeds that tire me and my baby out.

On top of this, I also suspect reflux. She will not lie down flat in her crib or bassinet. Even with the crib on a tilt. She will often spit up a lot of milk and then cries. We can only sleep with her in our arms propped up... but after almost 6 weeks this is getting tiring.

Bit of a rant but can anyone help me see some light? I want to enjoy my baby, not be upset and confused.

It sounds like you are actively seeking help and that's a really good thing.

At this age it's really hard to tell the difference between tt and reflux. Especially over the internet.

Is arranging a tongue tie practitioner an option?

Op I understand how you feel.
We had endless bf problems, tongue tie, inverted nipples.
Sounds extreme, but I was the lowest I’ve ever felt in my life. I cried constantly.
No advice but just so you know you’re not alone, and somehow youll find a solution that’s right for you.
