My periods have returned even tho stil BF'ing. Is this normal??

I am still BF'ing my 9 month old son (morning, afternoon and just before bed time). I was under the impression that my periods wouldn't return until I had stopped BF'ing... imagine my surprise when they returned today! Was I misinformed or is this normal?

yep, normal. Mine came back 8 weeks post-birth, you can imagine my disappointment lol

Well I have got away with 18months of period free bliss so I suppose I shouldn't really complain!

Mine came back when DS was 9 months as well. He went a full 2 weeks without waking in the night (previously he had woken maybe once a week or so) & I think that is what triggered them to start....although I don't think I ovulated for a few months after as my cycles were very short & wierdly regular.

I think it does vary a lot from woman to woman how long AF stays away when bfing....some don't start until they stop bfing, no matter how little the child fed & some start very soon after the birth...I think a lot will depend on the baby as well & how often it feeds, whether it sucks its thumb, cosleeps or not, has a dummy etc.

DD1 came back 4 weeks after end of post birth bleeding

DD2 11 months

Someone told me it varies from woman to woman if you don't feed for over 4 hours it can trigger ovulation. DD1 didn't feed nearly as much as DD2.

Mine came back within 2 months. I thought it was normal for them to return whilst breastfeeding. Like wilderbeast, I think you were lucky to get 9 mths

My period started again after two months - think it was because dd2 was only feeding once at night. I was really cheesed off because they didn't come back until after I stopped feeding dd1 completely.

Mine came back after 3-4 months IIRC. I think the rule of thumb is that if you are feeding less than 3-hourly, ovulation can start again, although how quickly it happens varies from woman to woman.

Mine came back when ds was 4 mths.

Mine came back six weeks after giving birth, despite exclusive breastfeeding (which I continued to six months). Regular as clockwork ever since. Even got pregnant earlier this year, while breastfeeding (though sadly miscarried).

I have gone a year without them. Should I be worried???

Can I bump this as I am wondering about it now as well, ds ten months today, still bf and I am still not having a period. Not that I am complaining bt just wondering...

mine came back after 9 months bf

Dd 7.5 mths - still feeding 5 times per day (approx 6am, 9am, 2pm, 7pm, 10.30pm) and no periods yet. Actually want them back as want to ttc again... hoping than now she is sleeping through and has dropped the before lunch feed I might start ovulating again

this is normal you were misinformed, I think one time mine returned about 6-8 weeks after even though exculsively bf - I was gutted!

28 days?? I was still bleeding from the birth then!!!

Mine came back at 6 months when I dropped down to 4 feeds a day , both times.

My cousin went for YEARS with no periods. preggers - then bfed for 13 months with no period, must have ovulated as became preggers immediately again - so no period. then bfed for ages again.
