OK so I know babies can get "nipple confusion" if a bottle is given too early..............

but can they also go the opposite and get "teat confusion"??? DS3 settling very well into his BF/FF feeding and apart from one or two hiccups he's had no problems latching onto the breast. However, both DH and I sometimes have problems getting him to suck on the bottle properly. He seems to chomp on it with his gums (or lick it LOL), fills his mouth with milk and then spits it out everywhere....it usually takes 4/5 attempts for him to get hold of it properly and once he's got it there's no problem - he gulps it down.

Does "Teat confusion" exist - or am I just losing the plot

No idea, but it really pleases me to see the words DS3 and DH in the same sentence. Well done to you both for working it through.

thanks - we're still taking it slow getting our relationship back on track but we're getting there we've had a handful of hugs (mostly initiated by him), a couple of "pecks on the cheek"......and then this morning when he left for week a quick kiss on the lips!

My personal experience was that DD would drink from anything that was near her mouth - breast, EBM in a cup, bottle, dribbled on a muslin....anything .

But to answer your question: He's trying to feed on the teat like it's a nipple by the sound of things. He'll get over it really quickly and as you say he's just a tad confused poor love!
