Advice on weaning

Hi mums! I need advice re my 8 month old please. He is solely breastfed and nurses about 4 times during the day but also uses me as a pacifier at night. I think I caused this 😭. He barely eats a few spoons of solid food during the day. Any tips on how I can 1. Get him to eat more solid food

  1. Ideas on what to give him to eat ( I used the baby jars which go to waste a lot)
  2. How to stop him nursing all night long.
Any tips will be greatly appreciated! Thank you

I found at 8 months my baby was only really interested in finger foods and wouldn't let me get any sort of purée near him , he's now 9 1/2 months and we have Switched to
Full baby led weaning .
I've found meal times are a lot more
Successful now also because he's eating more in the day he is starting to
Drop bottles , previously he would have up
To 4 bottles a night now we are only having 1 which is a definite improvement 😊

Hi OP
Some babies take to food much slower. I felt the same as you until one day about 9 months, my DS just increased the portions and it's been on the up since! Before then it was a struggle.

What are you feeding and when at the mo?

Also here are some ideas on what to eat
Breakfast-
Toast
Omelette
Weetibix

Lunch-
Sandwiches
Chopped veg
Rice cake with cheese on

Dinners
Jacket potatoes with tuna /cheese
Pasta
Fish and potato wedges

Thanks so much everyone. @homegrownmumma the examples are helpful! Do you give weetabix with whole milk or formula? My ds only has breastmilk. He wakes so often at night and I usually give him the boob so I can get some sleep. Maybe I’m over feeding?? I dunno. He wakes between 6/6:30-7. I nurse him at about 8. We take ds1 to school then upon return I offer him breakfast. (Ella’s kitchen breakfast, baby yoghurt with fruit or sometimes toast). Doesn’t eat much.
After that he has a nap for 1/1.5 hours. I offer lunch at about 12 (baby jar). Sometimes he’ll eat 5 spoons/ sometimes half a jar. Then nap again about 1:30 (i nurse him before).
Finally about 5/5:30 I offer dinner.
I want to start BLW in conjunction with purées. Think I’m not sure where to start. Maybe the fact he nurses almost all night is affecting his feeding. What do U think ?

I use whole milk in weetibix as I want to get him ready to wean on to whole milk when he turns one so I'm trying to introduce it abit more .
I have terrible sleeper too and can be up
About 10 times during the night too but the more solid food rather than purée is definitely making a difference to his sleeping habits .

Maybe start with some simple things first , toast, soft veggies , cucumber, banana , berries ( I squash blueberries so there not a risk of choking) and any of the Ella's kitchen puff things

Watching this thread with interest as I've started BLW alongside purees but with little success. DD just not interested.

I'm frightened of giving

TheRhythmlessCarolMan · 28/12/2018 13:53

Sorry didn't finish...

Frightened of giving something she'll choke on. Is the idea to give purees then increase the texture so baby gets used to moving things around in the mouth before swallowing? Is their little throat developed enough to be able to swallow a piece of toast if it were to break away?
I gave her some potato and it was the first time I saw her gums break a bit off but I got cold feet and quickly removed it from her mouth. I just can't find the courage.
