Food refusal

Hi guys first post on here.

Our son is 18 months, over the past few months has refused to eat his usual food (all homemade) and it's all food he's loved previously; spag bol, cottage pie, fish pie, for dinner and things like baked potato & beans for lunch - he is now refusing them all!

All he seems to want to eat is bread, potatoes (usually from our plates) and fruit (predominantly).

Over the past couple of months he's had a rough time with hand foot and mouth, a week later he got pneumonia, and now he has conjunctivitis. So we've been lenient with giving him fruit as an alternative to his usual dinner, but now he simply refuses his usual food and wants snacks or fruit instead.

Sorry for the long read but the long and short of it is... have we created this situation and is the resolution that we now simply stop offering an alternative and try the tough love approach with food?

We are trying it tonight but expecting a 3am wake up starving baby... I've volunteered to do it since I suggested this approach but I was at a loose end as to what to do.

When mine have been poorly, I’ve just let them have what they wanted. I think you need at least a couple of weeks of him being well before you tackle this.
