breastfeeding and trying to concieve

ds was conceived with a click of our fingers. He is now 2 and a half and is still breastfeeding, but not a lot. Just ten mins morning and night really. I've been having regular periods since he was 8 months old. We've only been TTC for a month but just got my period and feeling dejected. Could the breastfeeding be affecting my fertility? Even tho I hve regular periods? Any other tips? Feeling a bit sorry for myself. Sorry, I know it is early days, but was kind of hoping it would be as easy as first time round.

No, not ignoring you! I'm just trying to think of something to say other then 'it's early days, give it time'.

I don't think bfing in these circumstance will be effecting your fertility. I got pregnant with dd2 while bfing dd1. This time, I stopped bfing two months ago with the intention of TTC - nothing happened yet and I'm also telling myself 'it's early days, give it time'!

Ruty - it's barely half an hour since you posted!!

If you are having regular periods, you can assume your fertility has returned to what it was before pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The research suggests that even if you make sure you have sex around the time of ovulation, you will still only have a one in four chance of becoming pregnant each month.

So feeling dejected is understandable but it's not based on reproductive biology!

Hope this helps.

thanks belgo - my expectations were maybe too high...

sorry for being touchy tiktok you're right I jumped in too quick - feeling sorry for myself as i said! Don't know how we managed it so fast first time round - should have started trying this time earlier...

BFing aside, as others have said, it's early days yet.

I conceived DD whilst DS was 9ish months old and Bfing lots more than your DS is.

at 9 months wow! Nice to have a small age gap between siblings tho. I wish we'd started TTC second earlier because ds will be three in a few months and there will be a much bigger age gap between him and the next one..

than between his friends and their siblings...
