When did your LO stop having milk in middle of day?

I saw my HV yesterday (who is generally crap and knows FA about bfing anyway, so I don't know why I'm even worrying...) and she said that I shouldn't be bfing my 11mo during the day cos it'll interfere with his eating solids. DS is fine with solids - not a huge eater but he's only a little baby for his age and not eating a huge range of things (but she didn't know that cos I didn't tell her).

So when did your LO stop having milk in middle of day - bf or ff/cows milk?

I think about 12/13 months

I think btw 9-12 months mine had milk mid am then food at lunch at 12ish then milk mid pm then meal at 5ish then milk before bed. At some point the mid am milk turned into a snack instead. I htough milk should be the main food source until 1?

I've just remembered that some of her reasoning was that because he's on 3 meals a day (actually he's on 4 + a snack) he doesn't need the milk.

does it matter if he's healthy? Didn't see the HV for mine so have no idea what I was supposed to do - just did what I wanted (he's doing fine at 18 months)

My Ds is 16 months and still has milk during the day some days. It really depend what we are doing and if he wants it, he'll usually have a small snack too!

The main reason for not giving a milk feed with this solid feed is due to iron absoprtion. Milk slows this down so the amount of iron absorbed in the solid feed can be reduced by up to 80%. A vitamin C juice is better (obviously diluted) as this aids iron absorption. I stopped milk feed at this time at about 7 months. My little boy is now 8 months and I still ensure he consumes approx 24 ozs milk per day. Cheers

Just want to clarify though that he still has milk feed during day just not alongside solid feed. Not sure why your HV is so against it, maybe she needs some re-training ha!

I bf my DS during the day when I'm at home, but not when I'm at work (3 days a week). He is nearly 14 months. I have no intention of stopping until he wants to.

Unless there's a valid medical concern then just do what you want, that's what I do! I figure if DS is happy and healthy then I am doing my job just fine.

Thanks all!

I should have said this is milk between meals, not with meals. DS has a real mix of types of milk - bf on the 4 days a week I'm with him and ebm or formula on the days he's with his Dad or at nursery. Seems to work okay except I get a bit engorged on the days I'm at work.

I don't really want to give him much formula because it's a bit processed and I think it constipates him, so I might think about him not having milk if I haven't managed to express any on the days I'm not with him. Dunno, will mull it over.

DS is 20 months and is having breastmilk right now. He also gets cows milk and eats 3 big meals a day + snacks. He would be most annoyed if he couldn't get his b/milk through the day.
