Assistance Required for 2 day old not feeding & cranial recommendation Nr Maidstone, Kent

Mil's BF's daughter had a baby boy on Saturday & as well as a long & tough labour (& flat nipples) DS is struggling to breastfeed.

Apparently his head is cone shaped head & I wonder if he might benefit from some cranial work as it appears he is very sleepy (needs some energy boosting colostrum?) & took an hour to feed.

Is there anything that can be suggested that might help ?

Can anyone recommend a cranial oesteopath ?

TIA

Has her milk come in yet?

Mojomummy · 11/06/2007 21:10

hi, isn't just colostrum for the first few days ? My DD's feed frequently & without problem & I don't think my milk came in for about 3/4 days

Bit of a trip from Maidstone but we see a cranial Osteopath called Alan Webb who is based in Whitstable. (He's in the Yellow Pages)

Could try european school of osteopathy its based on the tonbridge road in maidstone (I used to live 4 doors away from it) not sure if they deal with babies so worth a ring first but saw them for my back problems through both pregnancies and they were great, if not friend used a baby one in maidstone so will text her and ask which one they used

Just go with the simple stuff before cranial osteopathy - skin to skin, keep baby with mum and not in the crib, hand express colostrum if the baby isn't feeding effectively yet, and no head pushing onto the breast.

Maybe CO will be helpful in time, but a newly-delivered mother might not want this sort of intervention or travel ay the moment...

I had cranial for ds. But I also saw a bf counsellor at local hospital, who was totally fab - can make all the difference.

ang772 · 11/06/2007 23:17

definately try skin to skin and express. i had similar problem with my son, eventually my milk came in and had to feed lying down. good luck x

Thanks - her mum was pressured NOT to bf (in the last 60's) so I think the daughter is desperate to bf.

The baby is only 5 lb 14 & 3 weeks early. Apparently all the staff have been very helpful & he did feed a bit last night. There is some expressing going on as well & the hospital are keeping them in until BF is established.
