hi, my dd went at 8 months for 2 days and wouldn't take a bottle so i didn't send any bm. health visitor was v. clued up about bfing and advised me it was ok and it was. just include yogurt, cheese etc with lunch. good luck!

Thanks pesme, but how come the recommendation is for 500-600mls of formula or BM a day until aged 1. They don't get all the goodness that is in BM from yoghurt and cheese, do they?

the recommendation is around 500/600mls but that is inclusive of milk with cereal, in foods, dairy products, etc too - they dont have to take it all as a drink.

I dont know how much you should send in as dd was down to 2 milk feeds by this age - (morning and night) and didnt have milk feeds in the day.

I used to send in two bottles: one with about 150 ml and one with about 100 ml. There was always a little left in each so I guess it seemed about right.

In flozs I think it;s about 6 and 4 but can't be bothered to check a bottle!

perhaps try her with some ebm now and see how much she takes. that way you should get a rough idea how much she'll have.

at this age they're probably better with a beaker or cup. dd2 just roles the teat out with her tongue but has finally started taking a beaker and has about 4oz from it. she only has it once a week to give me some one to one time with dd1 but at least i know i can leave her for a few hours now.

honestly she will get what she needs. you can feed her before and after work. dd was fine and expressing at 10 months will do your head in. i wouldn't worry about recommendations.

I know a lot of people who just give water or juice in the day and breastfeed at home and it works really well for them. I take in between 12 and 15 floz of EBM which he takes in three feeds. My lo is 8months though so yours might need less.

my 10 mo is ff and drinks 6 oz first thing, 6 oz mid morning and 8 oz at bed time, if this is any help?

Hi, my DS is 9 months and also does 3 days per week. He gets the amount I've managed to express at work the day before, 6-8 oz, which they give him in 2 feeds. I read if they drink alot more than you are able to pump while apart (eg if you top up what you've pumped with milk from your freezer stash) your supply ends up going down, as then they don't make up for any extra milk they need when you get them home. Working well for us, I express once at work, leave EBM in nursery fridge when I pick him up so no risk of forgetting it in the morning! Freeze milk taken day before weekend ready for first day back. I'd rather express even if he could manage without as I feel it maintains my supply for when we're at home. + gets uncomfortable at work not too. By Sept though your DD may not be having much BM in the day, alot of my friends have cut out the day feeds at this age. All the best!

That is good to hear psychobabble, I'll stop worrying so much about supply! Did you not get uncomfortable though?

fearscape · 29/05/2007 09:02

Ds is 9 months old, he is bf first and last thing and I send him to nursery with 2 x 4oz formula bottles. He rarely drinks it all though, sometimes only 1oz, he gets plenty of dairy from food so like others have said I wouldn't worry too much how much milk she has in the day.

fearscape · 29/05/2007 09:04

Oh and I give him occasional bf in the day when I'm at home, doesn't seem to affect supply and I don't get uncomfortable at all now - had a couple of painful weeks when dropping day time feeds originally though.
