Poor DS2 comes on for 1 or 2 sucks and flails off again, I keep swapping sides to see if he prefers the other breast and get the same response.
He is producing less wet nappies too.
hv today says to gie him water with his meals to get fluids into him and proide calcium rich foods.
Tonight he is knackered and really upset, crying etc.
he is 20lb 1oz.
started off on 50th line, went up to 91st, now just on top of 25th line

Pearls of wisdom please

i have a baby about the same age. i think that your hv has given good advice re. the water, etc, and lots of babies i know drop down the centiles at this age.

mine is too keen to play to spend much time bf in the day, but since i've stopped him snacking and try to only let him feed a few times in the day as well as a long bedtime bf, he is feeding better. one of my babies gave up bf by one year so i think they're all different too.

perhaps someone with more knowledge of bf will give some advice?

urstingig - when are you trying to bf him? You should bf him first thing in the morning before he has any other food when he is at his hungriest.

My ds 10 months and only feeds about twice a day. He fell off the chart ages ago, weighs about 17lbs I only breast feed in the morning and evening, sometimes before his nap in the afternoon. I don't express but a friend of mine does and her dd drinks her milk from a cup. make sure he drinks water throughout the day and have calcium rich foods. Why not have a word with your GP just to check he is ok. I've always been told those charts relate to formula fed not bf babies.

urstingug - like yogimum says - don't worry about the charts. Babies often go up and down the centiles and what you descibe - that he started off on 50th and is now on 25th - that's not unusual, nor is it something to worry about.

(my dd started on 50th and then fell well below the 3rd percentile - now that was worrying).

Some babies can self wean at this age (know of a couple in RL that have done this)... averages for weaning are just that, an average. He is an incredible weight Good idea to express into a cup if you can or provide alternative forms of fluid.

Thanks for the adise so far.
I do feed him in the morning efore reakfast, he is pretty much the same then. May e that he is self weaning.

He has 2 x formula feeds 3 times a week whilst i'm at work.

I must head off to work now, ut will come ack later - thanks

(sorry missing some letters of the alphaet!)

burstingbug · 23/05/2007 19:18
