Help 7 week old feeding every hour

I am ebf and my 7 week old has just started to wake up and cry to feed every single hour at night. I am tearing my hair out.

Previously she would manage to go 2-3 hours at night. During the day she sometimes has these hourly episodes lasting the morning or an afternoon. But more often than not she manages 3-4 hours during the day.

I gave up tonight and gave her a formula feed at 5am because I was worried it was something wrong with me.

What do I do? What am I doing wrong??

You aren’t doing anything wrong. It’s likely to be a growth spurt. I would keep with the bf and continually repeat “This too shall pass”.

It's normal, but maybe try offering slightly more often in the day (say every 2-3 hrs she normally goes at night), and see if you can make those 3-4 hr gaps during the day the ones over night.
Obviously feed her more often if she wants it!
She doesn't need formula unless you want to give it to her.
Congratulations on your new baby!

Sounds normal to me too, mine did that for months, drove me to the edge of sanity. Cake (sorry it can't be Gin, bet that would help more!)

I agree with pp that feeding more during the day might help. I used to feed DD at gradually shorter intervals as the day went on and then she would sleep better at night and feed less.

Okay thanks I will start trying that! I was just about to come on this morning and ask if I should keep her awake more during the day but you've answered my question.

Normal! Your baby is doing good work helping boost your supply. They often have another very 'hungry' phase at about 12 weeks too. Every feed is telling your boobs to up the supply, keep going.
I agree you could try more often in the day, but it might not affect the nights. Just try to keep going, feed lying down in bed and research safe bed-sharing if you aren't already- the hormones will help you fall asleep again quickly and be less disturbed.

Honestly totally normal, just this warm weather will mean they need alot more feeds, throw in a growth spurt and they will feed almost constantly. Don't worry, it will pass as your body increases it's supply. Be wary of bottle feeds because your baby feeding from the breast is what increases your supply, if you miss a feed your body won't get the signals to make more.

The first 6-10 weeks are the hardest and then its usually alot easier, they have growth spurts now and then when they feed lots to increase your supply more, as long as you are expecting and accepting of them they will be over in no time. Keep up the good work mama Smile

Just to throw something else in the ring - people said I didn't need to wind my baby's because he was breastfed, but I totally did need to! When I started winding him properly he slept a bit better as was more comfortable.

But as PPs have said, it's sounds pretty normal! You're doing a great job.

Thanks all. I feel a lot better than I did last night that's for sure. FTM - I worry about everything!!
