hi. i am currently 30 weeks pregnant with 3rd (ds are 5 and 3)and would love to hear any ideas on how i can build up my milk supply for bf. ended up having to breast and bottle feed previously as babies 'failing to thrive' after 4 weeks. my boobs don't get any bigger during pregnancy, i've never had any engorgement or leaking, or experienced let-down reflex. tried everything, positioning ok, feeding loads, expressing (never got more than about 2ozs) and i just really want to feed this baby without having to resort to bottles. am also very aware of the time it takes to bf and then top-up, which will mean an awful lot of sitting around for 2 small very active little boys with summer hols looming...!

There's nothing you can do in pregnancy, except to go to a breastfeeding workshop type thing. How often were you feeding with previous children? Did you get cracked or painful nipples etc? Did you have any retained placenta? Did you try domperidone?

fed both on demand really- every 1-2 hoursish, then every 2-3. stopped bf at about 7 months. both natural, relatively easy births, just had some gas and air. both 3 weeks early so not huge (6lbs 9, 6lbs 13) and i have really quite large nipples so not sure if that made it harder to latch on? did get very sore nipples first time (they're quite sensitive as well as big - god i sound like a freak!!), but had lovely hv who helped me with positioning etc, and that did help. my worry is that 2nd time round i know we were doing it all right (except maybe for the resting bit - had a bouncy 2 yr old!) and i still just couldn't make enough. didn't actually see bf counsellor, but 1st hv was really very good. will look into it if things go pear-shaped again. not heard of domperidone - will investigate. thanks for advice.
