when i read on here about a mass public bf i thought 'what a good idea'.i'm not bf my baby but i am very strongly opposed to the attitude that bf should be done in private,as that was one of the things that put me off bf ds1.

my local sure start have put up posters about a 'mass breast feed'-but they are holding it in a conference room in the theatre.on the poster it says 'dont worry,we will be as discreet as ever'.....

whats the point in that???

thats what i thought- i saw the thread on here about a mass public bf and thought what a good idea it was,as i have a bee in my bonnet about it being ok to show womens' breasts in lads' mags and newspapers yet women get verbally abused in cafes etc for using their breasts for their intended purpose.and in this town 2 years ago a woman was feeding her baby in a supermarket cafe and got asked to feed in the toilets as some of the customers were complaining!

i thought 'great-just what this town needs!' then i read further on and thought WHY???

maybe i will phone them and ask.

Oh, go easy on her!

I think that it's about getting more than the 'hardcore' bfeeders involved. Someone who is bf but disinclined to become politicised might well be put off imagining people chanting and waving their boobs about.

Ooh >>

I breastfed during mass once! At Buckfast Abbey. Not a Christian, let alone RC but it was soooo beautiful. Couldn't let a screaming DS#1 mess it up for everyone could I?

I don't see a problem with being 'discrete' - isn't that partly the point? To show that bfing doesn't have to mean waving huge swollen nipples in everyone's faces? But I do agree that the venus was a bit daft.

OrmIrian · 15/05/2007 12:13

I meant venue not venus obviously....
