Please someone give me a good shake and tell me to stop sterilizing

DD is nearly 13 months for goodness sake. Why am I still doing it? I really don't know, everything else goes in her mouth regardless of where it has been. Caught her with her hands nearly down the loo today and yet I still sterilize her bottles. I really need to stop.

stop it. It's natural for kids to want to put eveything in mouth regardless of where it's been! Germs are part of life and we all need some to keep healthy (in a weird sort of way) or we'd be on constant antibiotics!

lol. I b/f my DD (5 months) but dont sterilise any of her toys, spoons etc. The only thing i sterilised with DD was her milk cup at 6 mths for about 4 weeks and then I just put it in the d/w with everything else

i stopped sterilising as soon as she was picking her toys up off of the floor an she fine, didnt tell hv though!

Notanotter - pack it away. I have done it. Its gone in the cupboard with the breast pump and the bath support and the rest of the baby paraphernalia. You joining me?

I forgot to pack the steriliser on a trip when mine were 10 months and was convinced they would die of dysentery if we didn't locate one in a remote Cornish village. They were of course fine and it seemed silly to start again when we returned home. TBH they have been sicker during the months I did sterilise.

have to say though you should wean her off the bottles now on to a cup .. because otherwise you'll never get rid of them anyway

I stopped at 6 months. but I never stored milk in a bottle iyswim. this is entirely speculative but you could actually be having a negative effect - it might be the case that she needs exposure to bacteria to build immunity to them. I don;t know that - but worth checking out I would have thought.

(had to bribe DS at the age of 3 to give up his night-time bottle .. he asked for a slide, we said 'no that's too much' and bought him some Lego .. he opened it in great excitement and said 'ooo lego, am I having this whilst I wait for my slide?' ... it was a blinkin' expensive bribe)
