Hello All.
So I have a first night out planned tomorrow with work friends and would love to have a couple of alcoholic drinks (nothing too crazy... just a bit tipsy) seeing as I haven't drunk in almost 2 years. however I am still breastfeeding my 9 month old DD and would not want this to go into her milk etc how long do I need to wait after drinking to feed her from the Breast? She is happy to have expressed or formula but obviously she prefers the real deal. Will the next morning be too soon? Advice needed. Thanks.

A couple of drinks will be fine. To be honest so long as you are not off your face you are fine. I think the rule is that is you are sober enough to hold and take care of a child you are sober enough to feed. One glass of wine is like a glass of wine in a swimming pool in terms of alcohol content in milk. Have a nice evening.

It takes approx. one hour for your body to process one unit of alcohol. Add up how many units you drink and wait roughly that number of hours.

Exactly what @Unforgiving2 said.

I follow this and have never deviated from normal feeding routine etc.

Breast milk contains alcohol at the same concentration as your blood; your baby will consume so little alcohol in your milk you don’t even need to consider it.

As above, unless you are so drunk you physically cannot be near your baby you will be fine ... a couple of drinks won't hurt ...
Although take it steady I'm still feeding my 1.5 yo so hadn't had a drink in 2 odd years and 1 glass of wine made me tipsey 😳

You should be fine with a couple drinks especially by the time you get home (I’m assuming she isn’t coming out with you). I have about 2 glasses of wine quite regularly and still bf literally with a wine glass in the other hand. I’ve never expressed. As others have said as long as you aren’t falling down drunk, you’ll be fine, especially by the time you get home.

I've personally taken the same approach as I do for driving. You start to process alcohol an hour after you finish drinking, at the rate of 1 unit per hour. There's about 2.5 units in a large glass of wine, so if you have 2 and finish by midnight there will be no alcohol in your blood by 6am. A feed an hour or so before that will do no harm.

Thanks Ladies! This is such an amazing website it comes in so handy.
I deffo won't be drinking that much as I will need to look after the little one the next day and I have work in the evening. I agree as
I'm sure after not drinking for so long I will only need a couple of glasses anyway!
Thanks again for taking the time to reply. So looking forward to out! Grin x
