Advice needed, stressed with feeding

Hi

My little one is 13 months old, he started weaning about 5.5 months and was great ate most things, didn’t mind texture etc and would try finger food. Some meal times were a bit hit and miss but he would generally eat a pouch/what I had made and other bits etc

Fast forward to about 9 months when he started refusing the spoon, but generally savoury, would always eat a yoghurt of a spoon, heaven forbid he would refuse a yoghurt 🙄😂 anyway so from 9 months to now it’s been a battle truth be told to get anything meal like in him: I do think it gets worse when he’s teething/feeling off (he’s caught everything under the sun from nursery) at the moment he’s having nothing from a spoon, but like I said I’m hopeful he will go back to eating a bit from the spoon. (He’s trying to do it all himself but just ends up playing with it)

So he will eat porridge from a spoon, he loves bread, loves it, will eat it with butter cheese spread peanut butter etc, eats cucumber, sweet potato chunks, mashed avocado from a spoon, peas, loves fruit, will always eat that. and I don’t mind giving him that at lunch I just wish he would eat something more substantial at dinner. He doesn’t seem to like the texture of meat, eggs or pasta, and he doesn’t really eat ‘meals’ with his hand either.

He is hit and miss at nursery too sometimes he will eat his main course, but he will always eat bloody pudding!

Anyway I guess I’m asking for advice, is it a waiting game and I just keep trying to give him stuff he can eat by himself with his hands. It gets me so stressed, he still has a bottle in the morning and evening as he’s only tiny (between 9-25th centile for weight) and I worry about his weight. Or can anyone give me food ideas for a meal that he may try with his hands?

He still sleeps through, even when he doesn’t eat much.

Any advice is appreciated a lot , thank you x

Sorry you're worried - don't have much time to reply but I'd really recommend a book called 'my child won't eat' by somebody Gonzales, a Spanish paediatrician. It's so reassuring about the kinds of issues you describe and stresses repeatedly that 9-25th centile is absolutely in the normal range. I'd imagine getting your anxiety lowered is an important step in helping your wee one.

Thank you :) I have just started reading that book so hopefully it’ll help.
