Hi all

I would like to be able to express and freeze some of my milk to use other times, but how do I do this when my 12 wk old buba drinks everything i produce? I have expressed a bit but i alway end up having to give it to her that day.........

How much milk should I be able to express at this stage?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I used to espress off one breast and feed off the other first thing in the morning.
I never got a great deal but the more you pump, the more you will produce and over time it adds up if frozen.

I'm the same. I express off one breast while DS is feeding from the other one first thing in the morning and it seems to go OK. I have one side that expresses much better than the other, and I find that taking breaks in expressing seems to help. I express off till it's down to drips, then give it a few mins then go again and I seem to get another batch as it were. This will work for about 3 goes usually. I don't know if it'll work on anyone else but it might be worth a go.

DS fed every 2 hours except for a 5 hour break at the beginning of the night (starting about 8pm). So I used to wait until 2 hours after he went to bed and expressed then, as my breasts thought it was time for another feed iyswim, but I knew DS would not wake up until 1am.

However, my DS never took a bottle - not even a sip, so it was all a waste of time in my case!

Mt little one fed so much (every hour during the day until she was 5 mionths) that I had nothing to express so reverted to formula when I was out.

It worked for us.

Hi Munchies,
This is exactly the way it was for us in the early months.
I had to express daily to be able to have enough milk for my hungry DS. I always thought there was not enough milk in the evenings so then I would give him EBM from earlier in the day. Is this how you are doing it?
I used to express first thing and last thing before bed but I remember how difficult it was to get the time.

At 5 months I finally felt that there was enough milk and I could stop expressing just to have enough milk.
This coincided with us giving up the dummy and I think it helped a lot that he didn't "waste" his sucking IYSWIM

Now I'm a BF peer supporter and I know that there is still milk there even when the breasts feel empty (and more is produced all the time).

I hope it sorts itself out for you.
Good Luck!
