DD tries to suck thumb whilst breastfeeding. Any tips to stop it?

DD2 is nearly 5 months. She is a real thumb sucker. I dont mind this in the slightest - I'm not asking for advice on how to stop her sucking her thumb. However, she likes to try and slip her thumb in mouth whilst she is feeding. This then distracts her and she cuts her feed short. Any ideas on how to stop it?

I've tried holding her hand (which i love) but she wriggles it free.

I've also given her baby rice this last week or so..

..and she likes to eat with her thumb in her mouth. I'm not sure this is so unusual as i recall DD1 doing the same thing.

Anyway, back to my point, any ideas to stop the thumb finding the mouth while breastfeeding.

DS sucked his thumb from an early age & occasionally did the same as your DD & tried to bf with it in or try to put it in half way through....tbh all I did was say "Take your thumb out!" to him & he mostly did just that....if he persisted despite my request I took that to mean he had finished his feed & was simply doing the comforting part of it himself

thanks terramum. often i think she's having a momentary comfort pause between courses. lol.

i guess i need to grin and bear it.
