Bf-ing mum night out, how much do 9wk old babies need in a feed?!?

I'm off out for a few hours. Have expressed and stocked up in the freezer. How much milk does a 9 week old drink on average for a feed? I have no idea having exclusively breastfed LO. Want to know what to tell the baby sitter.

There isn't really an average. Do you know if your baby will definitely take a bottle?

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 21/01/2018 18:33

Don't know if it's an average amount, but my 9 week old takes 6oz a feed

FirstNov2017 · 21/01/2018 18:55

I was breast and expressed milk bottle feeding from week 1 to week 3/4 whilst we were getting the hang of bf-ing and LO was ok with that. We have the medela calma teet. Will try him on it tomorrow just to make sure otherwise I'll be staying in Sad

I hoping to feed him just before going out and then he should Only need one more feed until I get home. Have another outing in a week and a half so trying to build up a good stock and not defrost too much but would definitely rather have too much than too little

My FF baby had around 4-5 ounces per feed (roughly every 2-2.5 hours) at a couple of months old.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 21/01/2018 19:06

We averaged an ounce per hour I was out until she started refusing the bottle

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 21/01/2018 19:07

My 9 wo takes 4-5oz every 3 hours

TeddyIsaHe · 21/01/2018 19:08

If he refuses the calma teat, try the Tommee Tippee bottles, dd much preferred them as they were softer.

I made sure I had around 12oz with some back up in the freezer if needed. There’s a good calculator on Kelly Mom, I’ll hunt it down for you

My 8 week old takes 5ml every 2.5hours when dad has babysitting duty

FirstNov2017 · 21/01/2018 20:04

Excellent. Thanks for the responses. Will go for 3 bottles of 6oz

If you leave the milk frozen in 1-2oz sachets, the babysitter can just defrost a couple at a time and feed that, then defrost 1-2 more as needed. Defrost in a cup of warm water, then open and tip into bottle to feed.

So second time out and left LO with DP. He rejected the bottle. DP said he only took the bottle when he had exhausted himself screaming 😩 Going to try tommee tippee teats in the week. Any other teats anyone can think of?

DS is mostly breastfeed and has the Avent natural teats. He went through a bottle refusal phase and we found the softer teats a bit better. It’s trial and error tbh, I suggest you try one or two, and just keep trying. My DH had to persevere.

booellesmum · 04/02/2018 10:01

DD1 wouldn't bottle feed at all so anyone else had to feed her milk with a spoon.
Time consuming but it worked ok.

FirstNov2017 · 04/02/2018 10:11

Tried him on a bottle again this morning and he was having none of it. Worked for about 50ml when I held him facing me with the bottle under my arm Grin. Put him back on the breast after and it's the most efficient he's ever been!

I’ve never given him a bottle myself btw. Seems completely pointless given that I have boobs full of milk and he knows it.
DH gives the bottle and I make sure I’m not in the room.

If you just give up and breastfeed him it’s never going to work.

FirstNov2017 · 04/02/2018 11:05

DP tried for about 30 mins this morning. Will get the avent teat and try him later. I'll probably go for a walk in that time to give DP best chance

We tried quite a few different brands, Medela, Avent and Tommee Tippee are the ones I remember, and the only one my DD ever took more than a few drops from was the angled NUK teat.

She wouldn't drink much from it but would tolerate it little and often if I wasn't there.

Meepmoop · 04/02/2018 11:34

DS is breastfed and he will take the NUK teats but not the others
