Don't seem to be producing enough milk for 3 month old

I've had a really easy time breast feeding til now, but at the moment DS never seems to be full after feeds, he keeps trying to feed and getting frustrated and my milk has gone. Is there anything I can do? Am reluctant to top up wth formula as am worried it will affect my supply.

are you feeding him on both sides each time? Mine (9 weeks) has just taken to having a feed, burping and then fissing around wanting more so I put him back on (same side or other side depending on how long he's been there)

Also, hate to say it but 12 weeks is supposed to be growth spurt time isn't it?

Hi Catnip. Have you got a breast pump? If so, try to pump in addition to feeds a few times a day (easier said than done I know). Even if you're hardly getting anything out. I've read that boobs can adapt to supply more milk in a day or so anyway but the more stimulation they get the better. Plus drink lots of water!! To state the bleedin' obvious... Hope this helps.

I used pumping after feeding when dd went through her 3.5mth growth spurt, and lots of water, it seemed to sort itself out in a few days. Feeding more often will help give the boobs the stimulation they need too of course, but also in the fact that dd was not so desperate each time and had more patience when working to get the let-down of milk - still liked to thump me rhythmically in the boob tho'!

catnip - it'll help to talk to someone about this. Milk doesn't just go. Call one of the vol. orgs and speak to a counsellor - I am sure this will be useful.
